As I wake up this morning preparing for another weekend of errands, laundry, and even lesson planning, I stopped for a minute to have my breakfast and read the morning paper. As I read on, a particular article caught my eye: GOVERNOR WANTS $7 BILLION BOOST FOR PRISONER CARE Wow, our Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger asked the state lawmakers to approve this billions of dollars to build a new medical and mental health facilities to care for these inmates. WHERE ARE YOUR PRIORITIES, GOVERNOR!? Teachers that received these layoff notices have been active and fighting for their students’ education. My first graders are asking, “Why are they taking away teachers?” and “Who’s going to teach us reading?” These questions have been asked by many students and it is so disheartening for us to answer. I understand that many others aside from the education field are being affected by this budget crisis. However, if we look, really look at who will be most affected by these cuts, IT IS THE CHILDREN. There MUST be another way to balance the state budget. The Governor found a way to asked the state lawmakers to approve this $7 billion dollars and $100 billion are to be borrowed from the state’s general fund for the welfare of these inmate prisoners, THEN, how about the welfare of our students?

Jackson family... The Mann family loves you.Watching the news last nite, a tiny snippet on us, and then a huge snippet on how the Mayor's office approved a 24% income increase for THEMSELVES and a 26% increase for Mayor Sanders! What a joke!

Some statistics on what your poor kiddos are going into next year...Mann is being reconfigured (against the teachers' will) into one large complexMann is being changed to a traditional school year with a late start time (8:45)Last year Mann - Expedition had a mass exodus of teachers leaving only 3 regular ed teachers and 2 sped teachers behind...Per the district's plan... Expression and Exploration will be excessed as it's to be one complex and of our small school's staff, TWO regular ed... COUNT them 2 teachers did NOT receive RIF notices (one a seasoned teacher, the other a brand new teacher (prob 1) with an out-of-state credential)What's going to happen to our kiddos??

Education must become a priority in CA! Budget cuts should be made in areas that do not impact students. Teachers touch student lives EVERY day! It makes me very sad to know that our school board has not made cuts in other areas. What is going on in their heads! They are not making decisions in the best interest of our students.
